MINNEAPOLIS-ST. PAUL, MN - The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have retained coaches Neil Allen, Gene Glynn, Eddie Guardado, Rudy Hernandez and Joe Vavra for the 2017 season. In addition, the Twins will not offer contracts to hitting coach Tom Brunansky and first base coach Butch Davis.
Allen joined the Twins organization in 2015 after serving the previous eight seasons in the Tampa Bay Rays organization. Allen has 35 years of professional baseball experience, including as a player from 1976-90 and a coach since 1995.      
Glynn will return to the Twins for his 25th season as a professional coach, his third with the Twins major league club. Prior to joining the Twins staff in 2015, Glynn spent 10 seasons as a third base coach for Colorado, Chicago-NL and San Francisco. The Waseca, MN native was the manager for the Triple-A Rochester club from 2012-14.
Guardado spent the past two seasons as the Twins bullpen coach after being named in December of 2014. Guardado had previously spent time as a special instructor at Twins spring training. The former left-handed pitcher played 17 seasons in the majors with Minnesota, Seattle, Cincinnati and Texas.
Hernandez will return to the Twins organization for his 17th season, his third with the major league club. Hernandez joined the Twins organization in 2001 as the manager for Rookie Level Elizabethton. He also coached and managed for the Twins GCL, Single-A, Double-A and Triple-A clubs before joining the major league club in 2015.
Vavra will return for his 12th season with the Twins. Vavra spent 2015-16 as the Twins bench coach, 2013-14 as the third base coach and 2006-12 as the hitting coach. Vavra served as a minor league field coordinator from 2002-05 with the Twins.
Brunansky returned to the Twins organization as a coach in 2010, serving his first season as a hitting coach for the GCL Twins. In 2011, Brunansky was named hitting coach for the Twins Double-A affiliate and in 2012 held the same position for Triple-A before being named the Twins hitting coach following the 2012 season. Brunansky played 14 seasons in the majors with California, Minnesota, St. Louis, Boston and Milwaukee.
Davis was named the Twins first base coach and outfield instructor on December 1, 2014. He spent the previous two seasons as a field coach for Double-A Bowie in the Baltimore organization. Davis began his coaching career in 1997 following a 14-year career in professional baseball.
