LOS ANGELES - The Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation (LADF) will join Senator Isadore Hall, III and Progress California's 12th annual Turkey Giveaway and Health Fair at the Major League Baseball Urban Youth Academy in Compton, 901 E. Artesia Blvd. in Compton, tomorrow, November 22 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. LADF will join community leaders including Hall, III - 35th SD, Compton Mayor Aja Brown, Councilmember Isaac Galvan, Councilmember Emma Sharif, Councilmember Janna Zurita and Councilmember Tana McCoy, in donating 10,000 free holiday turkeys to underserved families in Compton and surrounding communities. The turkeys will be distributed on a first-come first-served basis at MLB Urban Youth Academy.
Representatives will provide thousands of free blood pressure and diabetes tests and share information on insurance enrollment. Participants will also receive information on healthy eating during the holidays to raise awareness of obesity. Covered California will provide information and help residents sign up for free or low-cost health insurance under the federal Affordable Care Act (ACA). LADF staff and Dodger Alumni will support the turkey giveaway and health fair. Dodger alumni Al Ferrara and Dennis Powell will be participating in the meal distribution and signing autographs. The event will include family-friendly activities including the Dodger pitching inflatable, Dodger giveaways and photos with the Dodger character. LADF partner Read Conmigo will be on hand to give away bilingual books to all children and Vision To Learn will be conducting free eye exams to all children.
