The Cleveland Indians today announced the following roster moves relative to the 2016 Spring Training roster:
 
Signed free agent UTL MICHAEL MARTINEZ and C ERIK KRATZ to Minor League contracts with non-roster invitations to Major League spring training camp.
 
Martinez, 34, will begin his third season in the Indians organization in 2017. He spent much of the 2016 campaign in a utility role with Cleveland around a stint in Triple-A Columbus and the month of July with the Boston Red Sox. With Cleveland, he batted .242 (23-95) with 4 doubles, 1 home runs, 4 RBI and 15 runs in 59 games, appearing 21 games (7 starts) at second base, 11 games (3 GS) in center field, 9 games (1 GS) in left field, 9 games (5 GS) in right field, 5 games (4 GS) at shortstop and 2 games (1 GS) at third base. He was a member of all three Postseason rosters and appeared in 7 of the 15 games.
 
Kratz, 36, is a veteran of seven Major League seasons with five teams since debuting with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2010. He began his professional career in 2002 with the Toronto Blue Jays, spending seven seasons in the Blue Jays player development system (2002-08). Kratz was on the Postseason roster of the 2014 American League champion Kansas City Royals and hit 18 combined home runs in 2012-13 with the Phillies. In 2016, he spent time in the Houston Astros, LA Angels, Pittsburgh Pirates and Toronto Blue Jays organizations after going to Major League camp with the San Diego Padres. The Harrisonburg, VA native was a member of the Astros Opening Day roster after being acquired late in spring training camp from the Padres.
