Outfielder Mike Trout has been chosen to start for the American League in the 2017 Major League All-Star Game, to be played July 11 at Marlins Park in Miami, FL. He is just the second Angels player to be selected as a starter in five consecutive All-Star Games, joining Rod Carew (1980-84). 
Selected onto the team via fan voting, Trout was tabbed as an All-Star for the sixth consecutive season and was named as a starter for the fifth straight time. At age 25, he becomes just the fifth American Leaguer to be elected a starter in at least five All-Star games before turning 26, joining Ken Griffey Jr. (six starting nominations), Joe DiMaggio (five), Mickey Mantle (five) and Ivan Rodriguez (five). Additionally, with his six All-Star game nods, Trout is tied for the most in franchise history with Jim Fregosi (1964 & '66-70) and Rod Carew (1979-84).
Trout is batting .337 (55/163) with 14 doubles, two triples, 16 home runs, 36 RBI, 36 runs scored and10 stolen bases in 47 games this season. The Halo center field was placed on the 10-day D.L. May 29th with a left-thumb ligament injury. He sustained the injury during the 5th inning on July 28th in Miami while sliding into second. Despite missing the last 33 games, Trout remains just one of three players in the Majors this season to tally 10 doubles, 10 stolen bases and 15 home runs along with Paul Goldschmidt and Brett Gardner. 2017 marks the fifth consecutive season that the 25-year-old has amassed at least 15 home runs before the All-Star Break. Trout is just the sixth player all time to collect 15 home runs before the Midsummer Classic five times before his age-26 campaign, joining Miguel Cabrera (2004-08), Albert Pujols (2001-04), Alex Rodriguez (1996 & 98-01), Orlando Cepeda (1958-63) and Jimmie Foxx (1929-33).  
In his five All-Star games, Trout has amassed a .462 average (6/13) with two doubles, a triple, a home run, three RBI, two walks and three runs scored. The six hits are the second most in All-Star Game history by a player before turning 26, trailing only Ken Griffey Jr.'s eight and are the most in Club history.
