A's reinstate RHP Cotton from the DL; option RHP Montas to Nashville

The Oakland A's reinstated right-handed pitcher Jharel Cotton from the 10-day disabled list and optioned right-handed pitcher Frankie Montas to Triple-A Nashville, the club announced today.

The Oakland A's reinstated right-handed pitcher Jharel Cotton from the 10-day disabled list and optioned right-handed pitcher Frankie Montas to Triple-A Nashville, the club announced today.
 
Cotton was 5-8 with a 5.17 ERA in 14 starts when he was placed on the 10-day DL retroactive to July 4 with a blister on his right thumb. He went 1-0 with a 3.86 ERA and .188 opponents batting average on a two-game rehab assignment with Nashville. Cotton was on the A's Opening Day roster and went 3-4 with a 5.68 ERA in seven starts before he was optioned to Nashville May 11. He is 2-4 with a 4.66 ERA in seven starts since he was recalled May 27.
 
Montas was recalled from Nashville July 21 for his second stint with the A's this year and appeared in two games, allowing three runs on three hits and five walks in 3.1 innings. He is 1-1 with a 7.03 ERA and .302 opponents batting average in 23 relief appearances overall with A's. Montas is also 0-1 with a 4.22 ERA in seven games, including six starts, with Nashville.
