The Chicago White Sox have claimed infielder D.J. Peterson off waivers from the Seattle Mariners and optioned him to Class AAA Charlotte.
 
Peterson, 25, batted .264 (101-382) with 17 doubles, 12 home runs, 54 RBI and 47 runs scored in 103 games this season with Class AAA Tacoma before being designated for assignment on July 30. He appeared in 51 games at first base, 43 at third and one in left field this season and combined to hit .287 (58-202) over 54 games in June and July.
 
Peterson, 6-foot-1 and 210 pounds, is a career .269 (514-1,912) hitter with 107 doubles, 82 homers, 334 RBI and 262 runs scored in 497 games over five minor-league seasons after being selected by the Mariners in the first round (12th overall) of the 2013 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of New Mexico.
Peterson, a native of Gilbert, Ariz., was a consensus Top 100 prospect by Baseball America, MLB.com and Baseball Prospectus prior to the 2014 and 2015 seasons. He batted .297/.360/.552 (147-495) with 31 doubles, 31 home runs, 111 RBI and 83 runs scored over 123 games with Class A High Desert and Class AA Jackson in 2014. Peterson was one of five minor-league players that season to record 30-plus homers and 100-plus RBI.
 
The White Sox 40-man roster increases to 37.
