White Sox place Reynaldo López on 10-day disabled list

Prior to tonight's game at Texas, the Chicago White Sox placed right-handed pitcher Reynaldo López on the 10-day disabled list (retroactive to August 18) with a strained back and purchased the contract of right-hander Danny Farquhar (FAR-kwar) from Class AAA Charlotte.

Prior to tonight's game at Texas, the Chicago White Sox placed right-handed pitcher Reynaldo López on the 10-day disabled list (retroactive to August 18) with a strained back and purchased the contract of right-hander Danny Farquhar (FAR-kwar) from Class AAA Charlotte.
Farquhar, 30, was signed by the White Sox as a minor-league free agent on July 24 after he was designated for assignment by Tampa Bay on June 29 and released on July 19. He went 0-1 with a 3.00 ERA (3 ER/9.0 IP), one save, 12 strikeouts and a .188 opponents average (6-32) with Class AAA Charlotte. Farquhar also made four appearances with Class AAA Durham.
Farquhar, a native of Pembroke Pines, Fla., made 37 relief appearances with the Rays this season, going 2-2 with a 4.11 ERA (16 ER/35.0 IP), nine holds and a .230 opponents mark (28-122). He is limiting first batters faced to a .156 average (5-32) and left-handers to a .207 mark (12-58) in 2017. The 5-foot-9, 185-pound Farquhar made a career-high 16 consecutive scoreless appearances from April 23-May 23, allowing just five hits with 10 strikeouts over 11.2 IP.
Farquhar, who will wear uniform No. 43, has made 230 career relief appearances over six major-league seasons between Toronto (2011), Seattle (2013-15) and the Rays, going 7-14 with a 3.85 ERA (107 ER/250.0 IP), 18 saves, 39 holds and 288 strikeouts. He recorded a career-high 16 saves in 2013 with the Mariners. Farquhar originally was selected by the Blue Jays in the 10th round of the 2008 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Louisiana-Lafayette.
López, 23, left Thursday night's start at the Rangers in the fifth inning with soreness on his right side. He is 0-1 with a 6.97 ERA (8 ER/10.1 IP) and 12 strikeouts in two starts with the White Sox this season after being recalled from the Knights on August 11.
