Arlington, Texas - The Texas Rangers tonight announced that the club has signed infielder Trevor Plouffe to a minor league contract with an invitation to major league spring training camp.
The 31-year-old Plouffe combined to bat .198 with 9 home runs and 19 RBI in 100 games last season for Oakland and Tampa Bay. He opened the season with the A's before a June 17 trade sent him to the Rays. A first round selection by the Twins in 2004, Plouffe spent his first seven big league seasons with the Twins from 2010-16. He owns a career .242 batting average and .714 OPS figure with 105 home runs in 823 major league games.
With the signing of Plouffe, the Rangers have 65 players on the club's spring training roster: a full 40-man roster along with 25 non-roster invitees.
