The Texas Rangers today announced that the club has placed third baseman Adrián Beltré on the 10-day disabled list, retroactive to Monday, with a left hamstring strain. To take his place on the roster, the team has purchased the contract of infielder Hanser Alberto (#2) from Triple-A Round Rock.
 
Beltré left Sunday's game at Houston in the middle of the bottom of the 7th inning after reaggravating a left hamstring injury that kept him on the disabled list from April 25-May 7. He played 5 games for Texas since returning from that disabled list stint, going 5-for-15 with 4 RBI and 3 walks. Beltré has batted .314 with one home run and 12 RBI in 29 games for the Rangers this season. He ranks 23rd all-time with 3080 hits, just one behind Cap Anson (3081) and 9 less than previous active leader Ichiro Suzuki (3089). The first date Beltré would be eligible to return from the disabled list is April 24.
 
Alberto, 25, will be seeking his first major league action since 2016, as his last big league game came on October 2, 2016 versus Tampa Bay. He has spent the season with the Express, batting .281/.308/.383/.691 (36-128) with one home run and 17 RBI in 37 games. Over his last 16 games at Triple-A beginning April 27, Alberto has batted .321 (18-56) with 4 doubles, a triple, and 11 RBI. At Round Rock, he has made starts at shortstop (27), first base (7), second base (2), and third base (1).
 
Alberto missed nearly the entire 2017 campaign due to right shoulder problems and had right rotator cuff debridement surgery performed by Rangers Team Physician Dr. Keith Meister on June 19. He was re-signed to a minor league contract on December 14 and played in 14 games for Texas this spring as a non-roster invitee, batting .217 (5-23). Alberto owns a career .194 batting average across 76 major league games with Texas in 2015-16.
 
With these moves, the Rangers now have 40 players on the club's major league roster, along with 6 players on the 60-day disabled list.
