Prior to tonight's series opener against the Baltimore Orioles, the Boston Red Sox activated outfielder Mookie Betts from the 10-day disabled list. To make room on the 25-man roster, the club optioned first baseman Sam Travis to Triple-A Pawtucket.

Betts, 25, was placed on the disabled list on June 1 (retroactive to May 29) with a left abdominal strain. He has missed the Red Sox' last 14 games, with the club going 8-6 in that time. Betts leads the majors this season in batting average (.359), on-base percentage (.437), slugging percentage (.750), and OPS (1.187), and he shares the major league lead in runs scored (52). He has hit 17 home runs, including three on April 17 at Angel Stadium and three on May 2 against the Kansas City Royals. Selected by Boston in the fifth round of the 2011 June Draft, Betts started for the American League in the All-Star Game in both 2016 (right field) and 2017 (center field).
 
Travis, 24, appeared in four games (three starts) for Boston after being recalled from Pawtucket on June 2 for his first major league stint of the season, going 2-for-12 with a walk and three RBI. Ranked by Baseball America as the No. 7 prospect in the Red Sox organization entering the 2018 season, the right-handed hitter made his major league debut in 2017, batting .263 (20-for-76) with six doubles in 33 games for Boston. Selected by the Red Sox in the second round of the 2014 June Draft, the Chicago native has hit .288 (392-for-1,361) in 361 career minor league games, earning Red Sox Minor League Offensive Player of the Year honors in 2015.
