The Texas Rangers today announced that the club has acquired right-handed pitchers Cory Gearrin and Jason Bahr and outfielder Austin Jackson from the San Francisco Giants for a player to be named later or cash considerations.
To make room for Gearrin and Jackson on the 40-man roster, right-handed pitchers Tony Barnette and Matt Bush have been transferred from the 10 to the 60-day disabled list. Corresponding moves on the 25-man roster will be made once the players report. Bahr has been assigned from High-A San Jose of the California League to High-A Down East of the Carolina League. 
The 31-year-old Jackson has batted .242 (36-149) with 13 RBI, and a .604 OPS figure in 59 games for the Giants this season, making 35 starts in center field and one start in left field. He has a career .274 batting average with 62 homers, 362 RBI, and 113 steals in 1058 major league games with Detroit, Seattle, Chicago-NL, Chicago-AL, Cleveland, and San Francisco. He was the runner-up in the 2010 American League Rookie of the Year voting to the Rangers' Neftali Feliz, batting .293 with 27 stolen bases with the Tigers. A native of Denton, Texas, the veteran signed a two-year contract with the Giants in January. 
Gearrin (pronounced GEAR-in) has posted a 1-1 record with one save and a 4.20 ERA (14 ER/30.0 IP) over 35 relief appearances for the Giants this season and has not allowed a run in his last 7 appearances (5.1 IP). In 2017, the 32-year-old Gearrin went 4-3 with a 1.99 ERA (15 ER/68.0 IP) over a career-high 68 relief appearances with San Francisco, posting the 7th-lowest relief ERA in the National League. The Chattanooga native has held right-handed batters to a .220 average with a .620 OPS in his career. Originally selected by Atlanta in the 4th round of the 2007 June draft, he has compiled an 11-9 record with a 3.57 ERA spanning 243 relief appearances over 7 major league seasons with the Braves (2011-13) and Giants (2015-18), permitting just 0.7 home runs per 9 innings.
Bahr, 23, has combined to post an 8-4 record with a 2.55 ERA (24 ER/84.2 IP) and 1.03 WHIP figure in 16 games/starts with Augusta (A) and San Jose (High-A). He has averaged 11.5 strikeouts per 9 innings this season, allowing just 23 walks against 103 strikeouts on the year. Bahr is 2-0, 1.69 (3 ER/16.0 IP) in 3 starts with San Jose in his first High-A action, since a promotion on June 25. He was 6-4, 2.75 in 13 starts at Augusta and still ranks among South Atlantic League leaders this season in strikeouts per 9 innings (1st, 11.53) and strikeouts (5th, 88) despite making his last start there on June 17. The Giants' fifth round selection in the 2017 June draft out of the University of Central Florida, the 6-foot-5 right-hander is in his second professional season. Bahr is rated as San Francisco's 27th best prospect by MLB.com.
Bush was placed on the 10-day DL on June 15 with a right elbow strain. Barnette went on the 10-day DL on July 4 with a strain of his right lat muscle. The Rangers Major League roster is at 40 players.
