Following a week in which he hit .625 (10-for-16) with two doubles, three homers, 12 RBI, three walks and seven runs scored in seven games, Nationals infielder Mark Reynolds was named the National League Player of the Week on Monday. Major League Baseball made the announcement on MLB Network.
Reynolds, 34, is taking home his fourth career Player of the Week honor and his first since April 25, 2010 as a member of the Arizona Diamondbacks. Reynolds week included his second career walk-off home run, a pinch-hit solo shot on Friday against Miami followed by an historic performance on Saturday. He went 5-for-5 with a double, two home runs, 10 RBI and three runs scored in Washington's 18-4 win.
With his 10 RBI performance, Reynolds matched a Nationals record (2005-pres.) and became the 15th player in Major League history to record 10 RBI in a game. He is the fourth player in Major League history to record a perfect day at the plate while collecting at least 10 RBI joining St. Louis' Jim Bottomley (9/16/24 vs. BRO), Anthony Rendon (4/30/17 vs. NYM) and Cincinnati's Scooter Gennett (6/6/17 vs. STL).
Reynolds' award is the third weekly award for the Nationals in 2018, joining Max Scherzer (April 16) and Adam Eaton (April 2). Other league awards garnered by the Nationals this year include: Juan Soto (Rookie of the Month - June) and Max Scherzer (Pitcher of the Month - April and May).
