PHOENIX -- The Colorado Rockies announced today that they have selected the contract of infielder Garrett Hampson from Triple-A Albuquerque and placed infielder DJ LeMahieu on the 10-day disabled list with a left oblique strain. Additionally, they have designated infielder Daniel Castro for assignment.
Hampson, 23, will be making his first career appearance on the Rockies' active roster … began the 2018 season in Double-A Hartford, batting .304 (45-for-148) with 28 runs, eight doubles, two triples, four home runs and 18 RBI with19 stolen bases in 38 games with the Yard Goats … was promoted to Triple-A on May 17 and has hit .306 (67-for-219) with 10 doubles, four triples, four home runs, 21 RBI and 14 stolen bases in 53 games … across three Minor League seasons, has batted .314 (363-for-1156) with 56 doubles, 26 triples, 18 home runs, 150 RBI and 120 stolen bases … the Reno, Nev., native was originally selected by Colorado in the third round of the 2016 First-Year Player Draft out of Long Beach State … will wear #7.
LeMahieu, 30, will be making his third stint on the disabled list … was most recently placed on the 10-day disabled list on May 14 with a left thumb sprain, reinstated on June 1 and has batted .277 (48-for-173) with 14 doubles, three home runs and 21 RBI in 40 games since being reinstated … had never been on the disabled list prior to this season … in parts of seven seasons with Colorado, the two-time All-Star has hit .301 (948-for-3154) with 460 runs scored, 151 doubles, 29 triples, 42 home runs, 317 RBI, 263 walks and 74 stolen bases in 862 games … in his career with Chicago-NL (2011) and Colorado (2012-18), LeMahieu has hit .300 (963-for-3214) with 463 runs, 153 doubles, 29 triples, 42 home runs, 321 RBI, 264 walks and 74 stolen bases across 899 career games.
Castro, 25, has batted .333 (70-for-210) with 15 doubles, one triple, three home runs and 26 RBI in 57 games with Triple-A Albuquerque this season … made one stint on the Rockies' active roster in 2018 and batted .174 (8-for-46) with a double, a home run and six RBI in 18 games … across nine Minor League seasons, has hit .286 (681-for-2382) with 117 doubles, 14 triples, 25 home runs and 273 RBI … was signed by Colorado as a Minor League free agent on Nov. 16, 2017 … in parts of three Major League seasons with Atlanta (2015-16) and Colorado (2018), has batted .210 (57-for-272) with four doubles, one triple, three home runs and 18 RBI.
The Rockies currently have a full 40-man roster.
