The Minnesota Twins announced Tuesday night that they will return right-handed pitcher Ervin Santana from rehab assignment and reinstate him from the 60-day disabled list prior to his scheduled start Wednesday vs. the Toronto Blue Jays at Rogers Centre. Santana, who has missed the entire season while recovering from surgery on his right middle finger MCP joint, recently made two rehab starts at Triple-A Rochester posting a 3.09 ERA over 11.2 innings.
Santana, 35, has played in parts of 13 major league seasons with Los Angeles-AL (2005-12), Kansas City (2013), Atlanta (2014) and Minnesota (2015-current). In his four seasons with the Twins, Santana has posted a 30-24 record with a 3.47 ERA (500.2 IP, 193 ER) and 1.20 WHIP over 80 starts.
To make room on the roster for Santana, the Twins have designated infielder Taylor Motter for release or assignment. Motter has appeared in 17 games for the Twins this season after being claimed off waivers from the Seattle Mariners on May 28.
