Tigers select Franklin Perez to 40-man roster

The Detroit Tigers announced today that the club has selected the contract of right-handed pitcher Franklin Perez from Single A Lakeland.
Perez, 20, is ranked as the third-best prospect in the Tigers organization and the No. 67 overall prospect by MLB Pipeline. Perez was limited to seven starts between the GCL Tigers East and Lakeland in 2018. In 57 appearances, including 43 starts, in his professional career, Perez has compiled a 10-12 record with four saves, a 3.60 ERA (222.1IP/89ER) and 228 strikeouts. Perez was named to the Carolina League midseason All-Star Team in 2017 with Single A Buies Creek.
A native of Valencia, VZ, Perez was originally signed by the Houston Astros as a non-drafted free agent on July 2, 2014. He was acquired by the Tigers along with Daz Cameron and Jake Rogers from Houston in exchange for Justin Verlander on August 31, 2017.
With the selection of Perez, the Tigers 40-man roster is now at 39.
