Mets sign infielder Adeiny Hechavarria to a Minor League contract

The New York Mets announced today that the club has signed infielder Adeiny Hechavarria to a minor league contract and invited him to major league Spring Training.

FLUSHING, N.Y., February 18, 2019 - The New York Mets announced today that the club has signed infielder Adeiny Hechavarria to a minor league contract and invited him to major league Spring Training.
Hechavarria, 29, has played seven seasons in the majors with the Blue Jays, Marlins, Rays, Pirates and Yankees. According to FanGraphs, his 26 defensive runs saved over the past four seasons (2015-2018) rank sixth among all shortstops. Over the last six years (2013-2018), he ranks sixth in the majors with 35 triples.
The 6-0, 195-pounder hit .247 with 11 doubles, six homers and 31 RBI in 94 combined games with Tampa Bay, Pittsburgh and the Yankees in 2018.
Overall, he's hit .254 with 101 doubles, 35 triples, 28 homers and 238 RBI in 811 major league games.
