After 26 years of shaking hands, signing autographs, and serving millions of BBQ sandwiches in Maryland, Orioles Hall of Famer BOOG POWELL will bring his famed Boog's BBQ to Ed Smith Stadium in Sarasota for the 2019 Spring Training season.
"No trip to Oriole Park at Camden Yards is complete without a stop at Boog's BBQ, and we are delighted to offer the same experience to fans at Ed Smith Stadium," said GREG BADER, Orioles Vice President, Communications & Marketing. "As an Orioles Community Ambassador, Boog will meet and greet fans on Opening Day and at selected games throughout the Spring Training season, just as he does at the ballpark in Baltimore."
"Over many years, we've mastered our unique, award-winning barbecue menu," Powell said. "I can't wait to share it with baseball fans at Spring Training in Sarasota."
Boog's BBQ first opened on Eutaw Street at Baltimore's Camden Yards on Opening Day in 1992. Powell's son, J.W. POWELL, will operate the stand at Ed Smith Stadium, which opens for business at the Left Field Pavilion on Opening Day, Saturday, February 23.
A two-time World Series Champion (1966 and 1970) and four-time All-Star, Boog Powell played 14 seasons with the Orioles. He won the 1970 American league MVP and ranks third in Orioles history in home runs (303), fourth in RBI (1,063), and fifth in games played (1,763) and total bases (2,748). Boog was born in Lakeland, Fla., and operated a marina in Key West before opening Boog's BBQ at Camden Yards.
