Dodgers defeat Phillies, 3 games to 1

The Phillies scored two in the top of the ninth in Game 1 to take the series opener of the 1977 NLCS before the Dodgers came back to take the next three games.

Dusty Baker earned series MVP honors with five hits (two homers) and eight RBIs in the four games, while Tommy John allowed just one earned run in 13 1/2 innings over two starts.

Path to the NLCS: The Phillies (101-61) won the NL East by five games. The Dodgers (98-64) won the NL West by 10 games.
