MLB's No. 3 Draft prospect homers OVER the scoreboard during postseason play

Vahn Lackey’s marvelous season is on full display for everyone to see at the Atlanta regional.

MLB’s No. 3 Draft prospect clobbered his 20th home run of the season in grand style Saturday night with a titanic 468-foot solo shot (per the ballpark's measurements) that cleared the scoreboard at Mac Nease Baseball Park at Russ Chandler Stadium. That’s impressive enough on its own before you consider the 456-foot blast he slammed Friday night in a 22-5 win.

July 11-12:

Lackey's dominance at the plate, along with his quality defensive tools, allowed him to rise on a talented Georgia Tech team that finished the regular season second in the country. He put together a solid 2025 season when he slashed .347/.421/.500 as a full-time starter, setting the stage for this year.

The 2026 season turned out to be an impressive one for the 20-year-old. Both a Buster Posey Award (given to college baseball's top catcher) and Golden Spikes Award (given to the nation's top amateur player) Semifinalist, Lackey entered play Saturday night hitting .413 on the season with an eye-popping 1.323 OPS.

By virtue of Georgia Tech's wins in the first two games (in which they combined for 31 runs), they're one victory away from making a Super Regional.

MLB Pipeline's Jonathan Mayo recently had the Pirates taking Lackey with the fifth overall pick in his latest mock draft. He could very well form a Georgia Tech duo within the first 10 picks, along with power-hitting outfielder Drew Burress (MLB's No. 8 Draft prospect).
