Top home run team
Nationals (166 home runs, most in MLB)
The Nationals have defied expectations in many ways this season, but the fact that they lead the Majors in home runs might be the most staggering development. After hitting 161 home runs all of last season (seventh fewest), they’ve already surpassed that figure with 166 homers this season. That includes 30 homers from James Wood (seventh most in the Majors) and 28 long balls from CJ Abrams (eighth most). The Nationals did, however, trade two other home run threats at the Deadline -- Luis García Jr. (23 home runs) and Curtis Mead (17) -- so they'll need to fill that void.
Hottest-hitting team
Tigers (23 HR, .472 SLG in second half)
It's been a busy few weeks for the Tigers, who traded their ace (Tarik Skubal) and another quality pitcher (Casey Mize) before the Trade Deadline. The offense, though, has been on fire of late, hitting 23 home runs in 16 games since the All-Star break and leading the Majors in second-half runs entering the week. Dillon Dingler and Spencer Torkelson have each hit four home runs, while six other Tigers have multiple home runs in that time.
Underrated home run team
Pirates (139 home runs, T-ninth most in the Majors)
The Pirates ranked last in the Majors in home runs, runs and OPS in 2025. As a result, the club went out to make a handful of offensive additions, including Brandon Lowe and Ryan O’Hearn. Lowe (23 home runs) and O’Hearn (17, but now on the injured list) lead the team in homers, but they’ve received plenty of support in the form of Bryan Reynolds (15 homers), Oneil Cruz (14) and Esmerlyn Valdez (14).
Team in a friendly park
Braves (150 home runs, fourth most in Majors -- playing at Yankee Stadium this weekend)
This is something of a complicated matchup -- the Yankees boast the top ERA in the Majors but they play in a hitter-friendly park and the Braves have hit the fourth-most homers. Between the trio of left-handed sluggers Matt Olson, Drake Baldwin and Michael Harris II, the Braves figure to hit quite a few homers over the short porch in right field. Ronald Acuña Jr., too, has the type of all-fields power to have a big series.
Team with a favorable matchup
Reds (145 HR, T-sixth most in MLB) vs. Nationals pitching (160 HR allowed, third most in MLB)
Nationals hitters have hit a lot of home runs and their pitchers have allowed a lot of them. Washington’s pitchers have allowed the third most homers in the Majors and they’ll face a Reds offense that that is tied for the sixth most long balls. While Cincy’s hitters have done a lot of that damage at the hitter-friendly Great American Ball Park, they’ve still fared well on the road and they have an advantageous matchup.
