OAKLAND -- The 2023 schedule is out for the A’s, and it’s about to feature a lot more variety in terms of opponents.
In contrast to recent years, the 2023 schedule released by Major League Baseball on Wednesday aims to bring more balance. That’s why for the first time in modern MLB history, every team will play each other in at least one series during the upcoming season.
“We tried to do it through the interleague Play to get exposure for every team to see each other that way, but this gives it, I think, just a better feel,” A’s manager Mark Kotsay said of the 2023 schedule. “Hopefully, it can also alleviate some of the extended travel that we’ve incurred to get those Interleague games in when the west is playing the east and you have to go back there four times.”
The new schedule certainly lightens the load on travel logistics. In 2023, the A’s will only have one true three-city road trip, excluding a three-city road trip that begins at the end of July with a two-game series across the Bay in San Francisco.
This new development presents some intriguing new matchups for the A’s. Let’s take a look at the highlights:
Opening Day
The A’s open up the regular season with a visit from the Angels on March 30, marking the eighth time they've faced the Halos on Opening Day and the fifth time hosting them for the opener. After three games against the Angels, the Guardians will follow for three more games at the Coliseum.
Miami nights
A three-city trip from June 2-11 begins with three games against the Marlins in Miami and continues through Pittsburgh and Milwaukee.
NL West action
From July 25-Aug. 3, the A’s will kick off the Bay Bridge Series for two games in San Francisco, then head to Colorado for three games against the Rockies, before finishing the trip with three games against the Dodgers at Dodger Stadium.
Ending on the road
The A’s 2023 regular season schedule wraps up on the road for six games in Minnesota and Anaheim from Sept. 26-Oct. 1.
Fireworks and drones
The A’s announced postgame fireworks shows for May 26 (vs. Astros), June 30 (vs. White Sox), July 22 (vs. Astros) and Sept. 15 (vs. Padres). Popular drone shows will also be featured on June 16 (vs. Phillies) and Aug. 19 (vs. Orioles)
