A's, Chevron grant to benefit STEM education

February 2nd, 2022

OAKLAND, Calif. -- The Oakland A’s Community Fund and Chevron today announced a $40,000 grant to East Oakland Youth Development Center (EOYDC). The donation will support EOYDC’s Pathway to College and Careers (PTC2) program, designed to help 25 high school students tour colleges across the United States and provide job skill training, mentorship, and scholarships to more than 250 students.

“A strong company culture requires us to act on what we believe. We create, sustain, and expand social programs, such as our partnership with EOYDC, that enable our communities to reach their full potential. We do this because our business succeeds best when the people we work with and the communities in which we operate succeed, too,” said Rhonda Morris, VP and Chief Human Resources Officer at Chevron.

Chevron is committed to creating innovative education programs that position the next generation to tackle the most complex challenges of our future. Through this commitment, the Chevron STEM Zone was brought to life through various exhibits that bring excitement and engagement to science, technology, engineering, and math through real-world applications.

“Chevron is proud to partner with the Oakland A’s to inspire the next generation of problem solvers through STEM education and the Oakland A's Community Fund. By bringing the Chevron STEM Zone to the recent A’s game and partnering together on this East Oakland Youth Develop Center grant, our hope is that students can create a better future for themselves and do great things that benefit us all,” said Paige Millard, Partnership Marketing Specialist at Chevron.

On September 24, the A’s and Chevron brought the Chevron STEM Zone to the fans, giving the youth the opportunity to engage in STEM related activities in a fun and exciting way.

Chevron is a Founding Partner of the Oakland A’s Community Fund.

About Chevron: Chevron has made a $150,000 3-year pledge to the East Oakland Youth Development Center (EOYDC), comprised of two critical programs for the organization – Chevron Future Leaders Academy and Chevron EOYDC Special Scholarship Program. The Chevron Future Leaders Academy is a core component of EOYDC’s Pathway to College and Career program, through which members of Chevron’s Black Employee Network (BEN) will serve as role models/mentors to the student participants, introduce students to a variety of STEM-related careers that exist within the Corporation, and facilitate discussions about their careers and academic pathways via recurring virtual seminars. The Chevron EOYDC Special Scholarship Program will provide funding to EOYDC graduates who need assistance with overcoming the financial impact to household income resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic. These circumstances would have caused students to postpone, and in some cases, rescind college registration due to lack of resources.
