A's pitchers making progress on road to recovery
CHICAGO -- Three A’s pitchers on the 60-day injured list hope to make significant strides towards returning to the active roster this weekend.
Marco Estrada, who’s been out since April 17 with a lumbar strain, was scheduled to make a rehab start for Class A Stockton on Friday night. The 36-year-old right-hander was 0-2 with 6.85 ERA in five starts this season before going on the IL.
“He’ll throw upwards of four innings,” A’s manager Bob Melvin said.
Daniel Gossett, who had Tommy John surgery on Aug. 1 last year, was scheduled to throw live batting practice for the first time on Friday.
“He’s been coming along beautifully and hitting all his mile markers,” Melvin said. “Everything has gone real smoothly for him.”
Left-hander Sean Manaea, who had shoulder surgery last September, will throw a bullpen on Saturday after being shut down last weekend because of soreness.
There’s no timetable for the return of any of the three.
