'I think it's sick': A's prospect Muncy amped for Spring Breakout

@MartinJGallegosMESA, Ariz. -- Formerly teammates at Thousand Oaks High School in California, Max Muncy and Jacob Wilson are now reunited as top prospects with the A’s, and it might not be long before they take the field together again on a big stage.
Muncy, Oakland’s No. 7 prospect per MLB Pipeline and its 2021 first-round Draft pick, and Wilson, the club’s No. 1 prospect (No. 68 overall) and the sixth overall selection in last year’s Draft, could man the same infield in the inaugural Spring Breakout. The event will see all 30 MLB clubs assemble rosters composed of around 20-25 of their top prospects to play exhibition games against each other's prospect teams during Spring Training in Arizona and Florida from March 14-17.
“I never thought we’d be back on the same team, especially this early,” Muncy said. “I knew [Wilson] was a good player and would be [in pro ball], but to be on the same team is really wild. It’s cool to have someone here that has been through the whole thing with me. Doing high school together and then being here, it’s definitely cool.”
The A’s prospects will square off against the Giants’ prospects on March 15 at Hohokam Stadium in the second game of a doubleheader that will follow a traditional Cactus League game against San Francisco. Rosters for each team will be revealed live on a special MLB Network program on March 7 at 8 a.m. PT, co-hosted by Matt Vasgersian and Harold Reynolds.
“I think it’s sick,” Muncy said. "I would love to go play with those guys. During the year, some guys who are a little younger go to [Single-A] Stockton while other guys are ahead and go to [Triple-A] Las Vegas, so you kind of miss some of those guys. I think it’s a cool chance to play with guys you haven’t played with. Put your best team forward and see how you play together. It gives you maybe a look to the future of what the team could be.”
Players who could be selected to compete in Spring Breakout who are currently taking part in A’s big league camp include Wilson, Muncy, catcher Daniel Susac (A’s No. 4 prospect), third baseman Brett Harris (No. 10), right-hander Jack Perkins (No. 18), utility player Max Schuemann (No. 22) and second baseman Cooper Bowman (No. 27).
