OAKLAND -- A's right-hander Jesse Hahn exited in the top of the third inning of Tuesday's 11-9 loss to the Marlins with a strain in his right triceps.
After Hahn gave up a leadoff single to Christian Yelich and went to a 2-1 count against Marcell Ozuna, A's manager Bob Melvin and head trainer Nick Paparesta came out for a brief visit before Hahn left the mound.
"Feels fine. I don't have any pain, any discomfort," Hahn said after the game. "I just experienced some tightness near my triceps, kind of. I had a big velocity decrease and the ball just wasn't coming out at all. It was a weird feeling."
The 27-year-old right-hander was charged with five earned runs on seven hits with two strikeouts in his two-plus innings, raising his ERA to 3.81 on the season. While Hahn's fastball sat in its usual 93-94 mph range to begin the contest, he could tell something was wrong when he warmed up before the third inning.

"It's weird," Hahn said. " I'm throwing the ball as hard as I can and I look up and I see 89, 90 on the board, I know something's not right. At the same time, you're not feeling anything, so it kind of keeps you thinking. To be in the state of mind when you're on the mound is not good."
Hahn said it's too early to tell whether he'll make his next start. The pitcher said he and the training staff have discussed the idea of an MRI and that he assumes he will take one in the near future.
Hahn had already given up four runs at the point of his exit, but the game unraveled for the A's once Bobby Wahl came in to relieve Hahn on short notice. Ozuna and Justin Bour hit back-to-back RBI doubles before Derek Dietrich's RBI single pushed Miami's lead to six runs.
The A's and Marlins traded blows to close out the contest, but Stephen Vogt struck out in the bottom of the ninth while representing the game-tying run.
"It was a strange game," A's manager Bob Melvin said. "At one point in time we're just trying to figure out how to get through the game and not use any of our main [bullpen] guys. The next thing you know, we're back in the game."
Oakland starters Sonny Gray, Kendall Graveman and Sean Manaea have all spent time on the 10-day disabled list this season. If Hahn needs to miss any future starts, right-hander Jharel Cotton is available to be promoted from Triple-A Nashville. On Sunday, Cotton threw seven scoreless innings, allowing three hits and a walk while striking out nine.
Cotton went 3-4 with a 5.68 ERA in seven starts with Oakland before his demotion on May 11. He ranks second among American League rookies in innings pitched (38) and strikeouts (35).
