Alonso, Melvin ejected for arguing strike zone

OAKLAND -- A's manager Bob Melvin and first baseman were ejected in the fourth inning of Friday night's 8-7 win over the Blue Jays for arguing balls and strikes.
It was the first ejection of the season for Melvin and Alonso, and it came after Alonso struck out looking against Blue Jays starter . Both Alonso and Melvin objected to what appeared to be a low strike call, and were quickly tossed by home-plate umpire Mark Wegner.
"We just thought we were getting the short end on the low pitch," Melvin said. "I just found out I can't argue balls and strikes."
Stroman had also struck out the previous batter, , who had words with Wegner, resulting in Melvin coming to the top step of the dugout to argue before Wegner waved him away. The A's trailed, 7-3, at the time of the ejections.
