The Twins announced Monday that they have selected the contract of first baseman Aaron Sabato from Triple-A St. Paul.
Sabato, 27, played in 113 games for the Saints this season, hitting .273 (114-for-417) with 29 doubles, one triple, 25 home runs, 75 RBI, 66 runs scored, 41 walks, a .349 on-base percentage, a .528 slugging percentage and an .877 OPS. On September 11 vs. Syracuse, he set the Saints single-season record by hitting his 29th double of the season, and his 25 home runs are tied for most in a season in Saints’ Triple-A history.
The Rye, N.Y., native was selected by the Twins in the first round (27th overall) of the 2020 Draft out of the University of North Carolina. Over parts of six Minor League seasons in Minnesota’s organization, the 6-foot-1, 239-pound first baseman has played in 599 games, hitting .231 (496-for-2146) with 115 doubles, three triples, 111 home runs, 353 RBIs, 321 runs scored, 318 walks, 21 stolen bases, a .339 on-base percentage, a .443 slugging percentage and a .781 OPS.
Sabato will be in uniform for Monday night's game in San Francisco against the Giants, wearing uniform number 31 and looking to make his Major League debut.
To make room for Sabato on the 28-man and 40-man rosters, the Twins have designated catcher Alex Jackson for release or assignment. Jackson played in 33 games for the Twins this season, hitting .304 (21-for-69) with four doubles, one home run, five RBIs, 12 runs scored, two walks, a .342 on-base percentage and a .748 OPS.
