GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Saturday was finally the day for Adam Eaton to find his way into the White Sox outfield, shifting to left field from center and getting back to work on the field a few days ahead of his original target date.
"We put a date that was a date that was easily achievable, and if we're ahead of schedule, great," Eaton said before playing in a 4-2 win vs. the Dodgers on Saturday afternoon, four days ahead of the March 23 target. "For me, this is on time, but if we needed a couple more days, that was all right as well."
Eaton, who underwent nerve-decompression surgery on his left shoulder in the offseason, was tested right off the bat with a gapper he had to track down and then a fly ball to left in the first inning. Eaton showed no signs of being uncomfortable at all in the corner spot after playing only center in the regular season since 2013. He had served as a designated hitter previously this spring.
"Just getting him on the field is good for us," White Sox manager Robin Ventura said. "Having him out in left, that's going to be something that happens during the year. Getting him out there as quick as we can and getting him acclimated, that will be important."
Eaton says his arm feels as good as it has in a long time, and he's prepared to transition to working all three outfield spots. Austin Jackson was in center field Saturday.

"Where I play in the field, there's going to be an adjustment for me, but it's an adjustment I'm willing to take on, and I'm excited to test it," Eaton said. "I haven't played right or left for a little while, but we're making our team better with Austin, and I'm excited about that."
