Haseley goes on injured list with groin strain

June 8th, 2019

PHILADELPHIA -- The Phillies’ replacement for needs a replacement.

The team announced Saturday afternoon that rookie outfielder Adam Haseley has been placed on the 10-day injured list with a right groin strain. The move is retroactive to Thursday, meaning he is eligible to be activated as early as June 16. Haseley made his big league debut Tuesday in San Diego after McCutchen suffered a season-ending injury with a torn ACL in his left knee on Monday. Haseley picked up the first hit, walk, RBI and runs scored of his career Wednesday.

The Phillies recalled outfielder to take Haseley’s place on the roster.

“Not the best timing,” Haseley said Saturday afternoon at Citizens Bank Park. “Certainly not what you kind of plan on when you’re dreaming about starting in the big leagues and stuff like that. It just happened in the first game Tuesday. It progressively got a little worse to the point where I came in yesterday and it was hindering my ability to play at 100 percent.”

It leaves Scott Kingery as the team’s best defensive center fielder, although he has started just 10 games in that spot in his professional career.

Haseley, who got an MRI, said he believes he injured himself running down the line Tuesday and that he has no timetable for his return.

Bell’s cycle

The Reds’ manager is David Bell, who played with the Phillies from 2003-06. He hit for the cycle against the Expos in 2004 at Citizens Bank Park, and the Phillies played highlights of that night on Phanavision during Friday’s series opener.

“It was certainly something I wouldn’t expect,” Bell said. “The only downside to being here was we didn’t get a chance to win because I know this place is incredible when you win. I had a lot of friends still on the teams that did win. It was definitely a life-changing experience for them. We had good teams, but we couldn’t quite get there.”
