PHOENIX -- A three-run homer by Adrian Del Castillo proved to be the difference as the Diamondbacks beat the Brewers, 4-3, on Saturday night at Chase Field to even their weekend series at a game apiece.
Brewers starter Brandon Woodruff retired the first two hitters in the first inning before issuing a walk to Corbin Carroll and allowing a single to Gabriel Moreno.
That brought Del Castillo to the plate and he smacked a Woodruff offering deep into the right field bleachers to give Arizona a 3-0 lead.
Woodruff left the game in the bottom of the fourth with an apparent injury, but the Milwaukee bullpen managed to keep the Diamondbacks off the board until an RBI double from Ildemaro Vargas in the eighth.
Merrill Kelly pitched well for the Diamondbacks. In the right-hander's five innings of work, the only damage the Brewers could muster off him was a two-run homer by Christian Yelich in the fifth.
