Altuve, Rasmus lead way for Astros on All-Star ballot

HOUSTON -- With second baseman Jose Altuve and outfielder Colby Rasmus off to good starts at the plate, fans can begin voting to send their favorite Astros players to this year's All-Star Game presented by MasterCard.
Altuve, a three-time All-Star who started for the American League last year, entered Sunday hitting .314 with a .415 on-base percentage, five homers, 11 RBIs and seven stolen bases, which led the Majors. He was tied for seventh in on-base percentage.

Rasmus, who clubbed a grand slam Saturday to give him six homers, had 16 RBIs, a .302 batting average and a .449 on-base percentage entering Sunday. Rasmus was second in the AL in on-base percentage, walks and RBIs and tied for second in home runs. He reached base in 16 of his first 18 games.

Meanwhile, rookie first baseman Tyler White (.298), outfielder George Springer (.288) and shortstop Carlos Correa (.286) have shown their prowess at the plate at times as well so far this year.
Catcher Jason Castro, third baseman Luis Valbuena, outfielder Carlos Gomez and designated hitter Evan Gattis are also on the ballot.

The other side: In the National League, Christian Yelich of the Marlins is among the league leaders in batting average (.396) and OPS (1.113) while getting on base more than half the time in his first 16 games.
Tip of the cap: In the AL, Mark Trumbo is off to a great start in his first season in Baltimore, hitting .373 with five homers and 16 RBs through 17 games.
A rising star: Trevor Story's start with the Rockies is hard to ignore. Through 17 games, the rookie was hitting .271 with eight home runs and 14 RBIs.
Fans can cast their votes for starters at MLB.com and all 30 club sites -- on their computers, tablets and smartphones -- exclusively online using the 2016 Esurance MLB All-Star Game Ballot until Thursday, June 30, at 11:59 p.m. ET.
