ARLINGTON -- Andrew Cashner earned his career-high 11th victory in helping pitch the Rangers to an 8-4 victory over the Athletics on Saturday night at Globe Life Park.
Joey Gallo gave Cashner plenty of support with two home runs and three RBIs in the first three innings. He has 41 home runs on the season, third most in the American League. Gallo is one behind Oakland outfielder Khris Davis, who had two hits, including an RBI double, in this game.
Cashner, who is a free agent after the season, went six innings and allowed two runs on five hits and two walks. He struck out two and will finish the regular season 11-11 with a 3.40 ERA, which is the eighth lowest by a Rangers pitcher in one season since Globe Life Park opened in 1994.
"I'll take it," Cashner said. "It's been a great year. It's overwhelming to take it all in. More than anything, I was consistent every day as a teammate and a player. I gave it everything I had every day. I didn't take a day off."

A's starter Daniel Gossett retired the Rangers in order in the first but couldn't get out of the second. The Rangers scored four runs in that inning, a run that was sparked by a two-run home run by Gallo.
"Just wasn't able to slow the game down and make my pitches," said Gossett, who finished his rookie campaign 4-11 with a 6.11 ERA. "It sped up on me, I lost track of the plan, and that's what happens."
Matt Joyce homered to lead off the eighth for his 25th of the season, increasing his career high, while Marcus Semien notched home run No. 10 in the ninth.

"For a guy that got off to a slow start, for him to finish the way he did … he's been real consistent for us," A's manager Bob Melvin said of Joyce. "Power-wise, probably as good a year as he's ever had."
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Gallo is long gone: Gallo got the scoring started with a bang when he went deep off of Gossett in the second inning for his 40th home run. He hit the ball with an exit velocity of 109 mph and it traveled projected distance of 434 feet, according to Statcast™. With the homer, Gallo became just the sixth Rangers player ever to reach 40 long balls in a season, the first since Josh Hamilton hit 43 in 2012. Gallo gained sole possession of third place in the home run race in the American League -- passing Nelson Cruz -- and fifth-most in the Majors, passing Cruz and Cody Bellinger.

Odor's wild third hit:Rougned Odor had his first three-hit game since Aug. 14. Odor's third hit came with runners on first and third in the sixth inning when he hit a roller up the first-base line that A's reliever Santiago Casilla was slow in fielding. He threw wildly to first as Gallo scored and Brett Nicholas went to third from first. Odor tried for second and was caught in a rundown, and Nicholas tried to score and was thrown out easily.

"I think I still have something to prove. I had a couple good starts here and there, but the bad starts outweigh the good starts. I need to come in with that attitude [next season]. TOUGH NIGHT FOR ELVIS
Elvis Andrus entered the game hitting .298 in his quest to finish at .300. But he went 1-for-5 and dropped to .297. Andrus needs to go 3-for-4 or better to finish at .300 on the final day.
"I'm going for it," Andrus said. "There is nothing else I can do. I've got one more start. We'll see what happens."

REVERSAL BIG FOR RANGERS
Jared Hoying was thrown out trying to steal with one out in the sixth inning, but the Rangers challenged and the call reversed. The Rangers ended up scoring two runs in the inning to take a 7-2 lead.

WHAT'S NEXT
Athletics: Right-hander Daniel Mengden will be on the mound for Sunday's series finale against the Rangers at Globe Life Park at 12:05 p.m. PT. Mengden has a 1.93 ERA in four starts since returning from Triple-A Nashville.
Rangers: Left-hander Cole Hamels closes out the season against the Athletics at 2:05 p.m. CT on Sunday. Hamels is 2-4 with a 5.90 ERA in his last seven starts, including allowing six runs in 4 1/3 innings in a loss to the Athletics on Aug. 26.
