Giants add to pitching depth, claim Moore

CINCINNATI -- The Giants added to their rotation depth in the upper Minors by claiming right-hander Andrew Moore off waivers from the Rays on Sunday. Moore will report to Double-A Richmond. To clear a spot on the 40-man roster, the Giants designated infielder Breyvic Valera for assignment.

A second-round Draft pick in 2015, Moore broke into the Majors in 2017 with the Mariners and posted a 5.34 ERA in 11 appearances, including nine starts. He was dealt to the Rays as part of the trade that sent Denard Span and Alex Colome to Seattle last year.

The 24-year-old recorded a 3.85 ERA in 26 appearances (24 starts) between Double-A Arkansas and Triple-A Durham in 2018, but he's had a tough start to this season, logging a 12.98 ERA in five outings (four starts).

Moore will likely fill the void in Double-A Richmond’s rotation left by right-hander Logan Webb, who received an 80-game suspension after testing positive for performance-enhancing drugs earlier this week.

Longoria sidelined

Third baseman Evan Longoria was out of the Giants’ lineup on Sunday for the second consecutive game with left shoulder inflammation. Manager Bruce Bochy said Longoria remains day to day but could be available to pinch-hit. Pablo Sandoval started at third in Longoria’s place.
