Angels claim RHP Blake Wood from Reds

The Angels today claimed RHP Blake Wood via waiver claim from the Cincinnati Reds. Today's announcement was made by Angels General Manager Billy Eppler. To make room on the 40-man roster, RHP Matt Shoemaker was transferred to the 60-day D.L.

Wood, 32, appeared as a reliever in 55 games with the Reds before being designated for assignment on Wednesday (8/23). Acquisition by the Angels marks third time he has been claimed off waivers. The Atlanta, GA native went 1-4 with a 5.65 ERA (57.1 IP - 36 ER) in the 55 games (all relief) with the Club (1.62 WHIP).
A veteran of six MLB seasons, Wood has compiled a career record of 13-16 with two saves and a 4.55 ERA (261 IP - 132 ER) across 240 relief games outings. The right hander's finest campaign came in 2016 when he boasted a 6-5 mark with one save and a 3.99 ERA (76.2 IP - 34 ER) in 70 relief appearances for Cincinnati.
Originally drafted out of Georgia Tech by Kansas City in the third round of the 2006 draft out, he was claimed off waivers by Cleveland in 2012 and claimed by Royals via waivers in 2014 from Pittsburgh.
