ANAHEIM -- A Major League source told MLB.com on Thursday that the Angels have decided to hire Tim McIlvaine as their new scouting director. The club, however, has yet to make an official announcement.

McIlvaine, 40, is set to replace Matt Swanson, who was informed last week of his dismissal from his role as scouting director after overseeing five Drafts. McIlvaine had spent the previous 16 years with the Brewers in a variety of roles, including as an area scout, crosschecker and assistant director of scouting.

The son of former Padres and Mets general manager Joe McIlvaine, Tim McIlvaine played one season in the Minors as a catcher in the Twins' organization in 2004. He became an area scout with the Brewers the next year. Notable players he signed included Scooter Gennett and Jeremy Jeffress.

McIlvaine also worked with Angels assistant general manager Ray Montgomery during his time with the Brewers. Montgomery worked in Milwaukee from 2002-10 and 2014-20.
