Angels option Barria to Triple-A

April 28th, 2019

KANSAS CITY -- With three off-days looming over a nine-day span, the Angels optioned right-hander to Triple-A Salt Lake on Sunday and recalled right-hander John Curtiss from Salt Lake.

Barria endured a rough outing on Saturday when he allowed career highs in runs (seven) and hits (10) over just 1 2/3 innings in a 9-4 loss to the Royals.

"Barria has gone up and down a number of times and it can be frustrating," Angels manager Brad Ausmus said. "Unfortunately for guys with options, the roster management is a big part of the game now. Fifteen or 20 years ago, this didn't happen with the frequency that it does now. It's very commonplace and it's not just the Angels."

Ohtani update:

Ausmus confirmed Sunday morning that (Tommy John surgery) will not play in the upcoming three-game home series against Toronto. Ohtani has continued his rehabilitation schedule at home as the Angels conclude a three-game weekend series in Kansas City.
