Pipeline Preview: Adell looks to keep rolling for Orem

August 27th, 2017

Here's a look at top prospects to watch in today's Minor League action:
Hitter to watch: Jo Adell (Angels' No. 1), Orem vs. Grand Junction (7 p.m. ET on MiLB.TV)
Adell, the 10th overall pick in this year's Draft, has been on some kind of tear over the last week-plus. He's on a six-game hit streak for the Rookie-level Owls and has recorded multiple hits in three straight. The latest: a 3-for-7 performance with a double and a stolen base out of the leadoff spot on Saturday. Since joining Orem on Aug. 17, Adell is batting .343 with a .571 slugging percentage.

Pitcher to watch: Mitch Keller (Pirates' No. 2), Altoona vs. Bowie (6 p.m. ET on MiLB.TV)
Keller is baseball's No. 22 overall prospect, and he's been pitching like it lately. The 21-year-old right-hander hasn't allowed more than two earned runs in any of his past seven starts, a run going back more than a month to July 20. That, of course, includes all four of his outings since being promoted to Double-A, where he has a 3.13 ERA in 23 innings pitched. He's also averaging 10.6 strikeouts per nine innings, having racked up 27 K's since joining Altoona. Keller even picked up his first Double-A win his last time out.

Duel of the Day: (Reds' No. 21) vs. Mike Soroka (Braves' No. 5), Pensacola vs. Mississippi (5:05 p.m. ET on MiLB.TV)
Mella and Soroka recently dueled on Aug. 17, with Mella coming out on top. Despite an up-and-down year for the 24-year-old right-hander, he's now put together back-to-back strong starts, starting his six-inning, two-earned run effort to beat the same Mississippi team he'll face on Sunday.

Soroka had one of his rougher outings of the season against Mella and Pensacola, allowing five earned runs on 11 hits, but he's had an excellent season overall. Soroka, MLB's No. 38 overall prospect, has an 11-8 record and a 2.92 ERA, and the 20-year-old righty bounced back his last time out with six innings of two-run ball.
