Source: Angels meet with Ohtani in LA

Halos brass pitched club to Japanese sensation and agent on Monday

December 6th, 2017

The Angels were among the teams to meet with Japanese two-way sensation Shohei Ohtani in Los Angeles on Monday, a source confirmed to MLB.com.
The club has not confirmed the meeting.
The Dodgers and Giants also met with Ohtani on Monday, while the Mariners, Rangers and Cubs made their pitches on Tuesday, according to reports. That would make the Padres the only finalist left to meet with the 23-year-old star, who has emerged as the prize of this winter's free-agent class due to his affordability and unique talent.
It's unclear who represented the Angels at the meeting with Ohtani and his agent, Nez Balelo of CAA, though it's likely that manager Mike Scioscia was present along with general manager Billy Eppler and other members of the Angels' front office. The Rangers sent an eight-person contingent to their meeting, according to MLB.com's TR Sullivan.
Ohtani, who was posted by Japanese club the Nippon-Ham Fighters last week, has until Dec. 22 to select a team. He is believed to prefer West Coast destinations and clubs in smaller markets.
