ANAHEIM -- The Angels signed outfielder Shane Robinson to a Minor League contract Thursday.
Robinson -- inserted into the starting lineup for Thursday's 2-1 win over the Dodgers in the Freeway Series opener because Mike Trout was feeling under the weather -- has batted .237/.302/.313 in 351 career games in the Major Leagues, spending time at all three outfield spots.
The 31-year-old right-handed hitter was a fifth-round Draft pick by the Cardinals in 2006, then spent the 2015 season with the Twins, signed a Minor League contract with the Indians and was released Tuesday.
Robinson batted .286/.400/.381 this spring, but couldn't crack the Indians' Opening Day outfield. He'll likely join Rafael Ortega, Nick Buss, Quintin Berry and Todd Cunningham, who is out of options, as Triple-A outfield depth.
Angels and CHOC: The Angels and Children's Hospital of Orange County will continue their partnership in support of the "Be an Angel for CHOC" campaign, which has raised more than $150,000 since 2014. Fans donating $1 per Angels win receive two tickets to a future game. A $5 donation adds an Angels hat; a donation of $10 or more includes an autographed baseball.
Fans who make a one-time donation of $1,000 or more will have a special meet-and-greet at Angel Stadium, in addition to two tickets to a future home game.
The Angels Baseball Foundation will also donate $100 for each victory. Money raised in the campaign supports patient care, research and education at CHOC, helping to advance the health and well-being of children. Mike Trout will express his support through commercials, social-media posts and special visits with patients.
O'Grady back: Minor League reliever Chris O'Grady was sent back to the Angels and has been assigned to Triple-A. The Reds selected O'Grady in the Rule 5 Draft, but didn't have a place for him on their Opening Day roster. The 25-year-old lefty posted a 3.28 ERA in Double-A and Triple-A last year, striking out 8.9 batters per nine innings and walking 2.2.
