Skaggs to have shoulder evaluated

April 30th, 2016

ARLINGTON -- The final stage of Tyler Skaggs' recovery from Tommy John surgery has hit a snag.
Skaggs, scratched from his start for Triple-A Salt Lake on Monday, has some tightness in his throwing shoulder, which will force him to travel to Los Angeles and get evaluated by the Angels. The 24-year-old left-hander was initially scratched with what the team called "general fatigue" and was supposed to take the week to focus on regaining strength.
Skaggs threw a bullpen session on Wednesday and was slated to start this coming Monday if his second one went well, but he never got off the mound again. A product of Tommy John surgery in August 2014, Skaggs made two relief appearances in Spring Training and three starts in Triple-A, going as long as 3 2/3 innings and posting a 2.79 ERA.
The Angels will know more once they get an up-close look on Monday.
"Any time a guy has to take a timeout, you're always aware," Angels general manager Billy Eppler said after his team's 4-2 loss to the Rangers on Friday night. "Your antenna goes up."
