SURPRISE, Ariz. -- The Rangers are getting Rule 5 Draft pick pitcher/outfielder back from the Astros. He has been outrighted to Triple-A Round Rock and will be in camp on Monday as a non-roster player.
The Astros took Gose in the Rule 5 Draft in December, but they put him on waivers after he appeared in just one Grapefruit League game for Houston. Gose walked all three batters he faced in that outing.
Gose is a five-year Major League veteran, having played 358 games in the outfield for the Blue Jays and Tigers. He switched to pitching last year, because he can throw 95-100 mph with his fastball. Gose pitched in 11 games with Class A Lakeland, allowing nine earned runs with 14 strikeouts and six walks in 10 2/3 innings.
