2nd-round southpaw Kelly signs for slot

June 8th, 2019

The Brewers have signed 2019 second-round Draft pick Antoine Kelly, according to MLB Pipeline’s Jim Callis.

Milwaukee selected Kelly with the No. 65 pick in this year’s MLB Draft out of Wabash Valley (Ill.) Community College. The team signed Kelly for the full slot value of $1,025,100.

Kelly, 19, was MLB Pipeline’s 90th-ranked Draft prospect and is known for his ability to miss bats. The left-hander led all junior college pitchers this spring with 19.1 strikeouts per nine innings. Though he lacks a true secondary offering, Kelly's fastball alone makes him an intriguing player, with many believing he can develop better secondary pitches at the next level.

The 6-foot-6, 205-pound southpaw is the first of this year’s draftees to sign with the team.
