The Oakland A's placed third baseman Danny Valencia on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to April 21 with a strained left hamstring, the club announced today. To take his spot on the roster, the A's recalled infielder Tyler Ladendorf from Triple-A Nashville.
Valencia was batting .294 with two RBI in 14 games before leaving the game on Wednesday night in New York in the fourth inning with the hamstring injury. He had hit safely in each of his last four games, going 5-for-15 (.333). Valencia started 14 of the A's first 15 games at third base.
Ladendorf hit .364 with a home run and seven RBI in 16 games this spring before he was optioned to Nashville March 21. He batted .240 with a home run, two RBI and nine runs scored in 12 games with the Sounds. The 28-year-old right-handed hitter appeared in 10 games in center field and two at shortstop at Triple-A. Ladendorf made his Major League debut with Oakland last year and hit .235 with a triple and two RBI in nine games over two stints. He has played every position except pitcher, catcher and first base in his professional career.
