Jonathan Mayo of MLBPipeline.com reported that Allen signed for $2 million, significantly higher than the $697,500 slot value allotted to that pick. Allen had been committed to USC if he had chosen to go to college.

MLBPipeline.com's Jim Callis reported that Deichmann, the 43rd overall pick, signed for $1.7 million, above the $1,597,300 slot value.

MLBPipeline.com previously reported that the A's saved money on 33rd overall pick Kevin Merrell, who signed for more than $200,000 under slot, and MLBPipeline.com also reported that both Howard and Poche signed for $40,000, both well under their slot values.

The A's have now signed their first 14 picks, 25 of their first 26 and 35 overall.
