ANAHEIM -- Astros infield prospect Alex Bregman, who's set to join Triple-A Fresno later this week, and pitching prospect Joe Musgrove were picked to represent the U.S. Team at the 2016 SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game on July 10 at Petco Park in San Diego.
Bregman, the No. 2 overall pick in last year's Draft out of LSU and the team's No. 1 prospect according to MLBPipeline, hit .297 with a .415 on-base percentage, 14 homers and 46 RBIs in 62 games at Double-A Corpus Christi with 42 walks and 26 strikeouts. He'll represent the Hooks in Tuesday's Texas League All-Star Game before reporting to Fresno, a source told MLB.com on Sunday.

Musgrove went 2-1 with a 0.34 ERA in six games (four starts) at Corpus Christi before being promoted to Fresno, where the right-hander has made seven starts and is 3-3 with a 4.73 ERA. In 66 1/3 Minor League innings this year, Musgrove has struck out 65 and walked only nine.

Major League Baseball, in conjunction with MLB.com, Baseball America and the 30 Major League Clubs, selected the 25 players currently on each team. Each Major League organization is represented and players from all full-season Minor Leagues were eligible to be selected.
The teams feature 15 former first-round Draft picks (14 on the U.S. Team and one on the World Team), one player picked in Compensation Round A (U.S. Team) and four second-round picks (all U.S.). Among the 15 first-round picks, seven were selected in the 2015 Draft, one in the '14 Draft and seven in the '13 Draft.
The U.S. Team will be managed by former Padres closer Trevor Hoffman, who is a senior advisor with San Diego. Former Astros slugger Moises Alou, who's a special assistant with the Padres, will manage the World Team.

The recent promotion of A.J. Reed should serve as a reminder to fantasy owners that Bregman is likely nearing his big league debut. Set to join Triple-A Fresno after posting a .415 on-base percentage with 14 homers and 46 RBIs in Double-A this season, the natural shortstop could be shifted to third base full time and called up as a potential improvement over Houston's current hot-corner man (and lifetime .231 batter), Luis Valbuena.
