Astros announce minor league Players of the Month for June

The Houston Astros Player Development Department has named June's Minor League Players and Pitchers of the Month at Triple A Fresno, Double A Corpus Christi, Class A Advanced Lancaster, Class A Quad Cities and the Rookie Level DSL Astros Blue and Orange.

HOUSTON, TX - The Houston Astros Player Development Department has named June's Minor League Players and Pitchers of the Month at Triple A Fresno, Double A Corpus Christi, Class A Advanced Lancaster, Class A Quad Cities and the Rookie Level DSL Astros Blue and Orange.
OF Preston Tucker was named Triple A Fresno's June Player of the Month after batting .361 (35x97) with seven doubles, three triples, six homers, 19 RBI and a 1.079 OPS (.398 OBP/.680 SLG) in 25 games in June. The 25-year-old capped off his stellar month with a 5x6, three-homer, eight-RBI performance at Salt Lake City on June 30. Among all Pacific Coast League hitters during the month, Tucker ranked tied for fourth in extra-base hits, sixth in OPS and tied for eighth in homers.
RHP Brady Rodgers received Fresno Pitcher of the Month honors for the second consecutive month after posting the fourth-best ERA in June (1.35) among all Triple A pitchers. The former third-round pick in the 2012 draft went 5-0 with 32 strikeouts, six walks and a .186 opponent batting average during his five starts in the month, tying for the minor league-lead in June wins. Rodgers, who has gone 8-3 with a 2.88 ERA in 15 total starts this year, will start the Triple A All-Star Game for the Pacific Coast League on July 13.
 
At Double A Corpus Christi, OF Teoscar Hernandez batted .333 (34x102) with six doubles, three homers, 11 RBI, 13 steals and a .419 on-base percentage in 24 games en route to June Player of the Month honors. Hernandez, who was promoted to Triple A on June 30, led all Texas League players in runs (21) and steals during the month, while finishing second in hits, third in OBP and fourth in OPS (.899).
Corpus Christi's Pitcher of the Month honors went to RHP Francis Martes, who went 3-0 with a 1.48 ERA (5ER/30.1IP), 30 strikeouts and eight walks in five games in June. The youngest pitcher in the Texas League at 20 years old, Martes finished third in the league in ERA and strikeouts during the month, while ranking tied for third in innings pitched.
OF Bobby Boyd was named Class A Advanced Lancaster's June Player of the Month, as he hit .310 (26x84) with 16 RBI and a .389 on-base percentage in 20 games. A California League Midseason All-Star, Boyd currently leads the JetHawks in batting (.303) and hits (74) while ranking second in steals (28).
RHP Rogelio Armenteros was named Lancaster's Pitcher of the Month after going 2-0 with a 1.48 ERA (4ER/24.1IP) and 30 strikeouts in five June outings. During the month, Armenteros ranked second in the California League in ERA.
At Class A Quad Cities, OF Myles Straw was named June Player of the Month and RHP Jose Luis Hernandez was named June Pitcher of the Month. Straw hit .326 (28x86) with six steals and a .420 on-base percentage in 24 games during the month, while Hernandez pitched to a 1-0 record and a 1.00 ERA (3ER/27IP), striking out 30 and walking just two. Among Midwest League pitchers in June, Hernandez ranked second in ERA and tied for seventh in strikeouts.
For the DSL Astros Blue, IF Nicolas Miranda and RHP Leovanny Rodriguez were named June Player and Pitcher of the Month, respectively. Miranda hit .311 (19x61) with 16 walks and a .455 on-base percentage in 20 games, while Rodriguez allowed just one run in 14.1 innings (0.63 ERA) with 15 strikeouts and two walks across three starts prior to getting promoted to the GCL Astros.
OF Ramiro Rodriguez and RHP Diosward Gonzalez were the June Player and Pitcher of the Month recipients for the DSL Astros Orange. Rodriguez hit .300 (21x70) with two doubles, three triples, two homers, 14 RBI and a .919 OPS in 20 games, and Gonzalez went 1-1 with a 1.71 ERA (4ER/21IP) and 21 strikeouts in five starts in the month.
