The Astros placed right-hander Josh James on the injured list Friday for undisclosed reasons, manager Dusty Baker said. Baker said he hopes to have the reliever back in time for the start of the postseason Tuesday.

To replace James, the Astros called up right-hander Chase De Jong from the taxi squad.

James has appeared in 13 games (two starts) for the Astros this season, posting a 7.27 ERA. In his last five appearances, all in relief, he has thrown six scoreless innings, allowing just two hits and a walk with seven strikeouts (.111 opponents’ average, 0.50 WHIP).

De Jong is with the Astros in Arlington and was available for Friday night’s game against the Rangers. De Jong, 26, has appeared in two games with the Astros in 2020 with one start. His most recent appearance was a start on Sept. 8 at Oakland, when he gave up four runs, five hits and one walk in three innings.

Baker said De Jong would start Saturday’s game if the Astros clinched a playoff spot on Friday. If not, Lance McCullers Jr. would start Saturday.
