HOUSTON -- George Springer collected the walk-off home run in the 11th inning that gave the Astros a 5-4 win over the D-backs, but it was the Houston outfield that continually came up with big catches and key plays.
Carlos Gomez in center field and Jake Marisnick in left field made outstanding catches in the third inning that limited the D-backs to only one run in the inning. Gomez also had a first-inning outfield assist and right fielder Springer collected an assist in the seventh inning.

"Our outfield defense, all of them were competing for the highlight of the night," manager A.J. Hinch said. "We say all the time you have to hit it out to get it past our outfield.
"That's the most athletic outfield I can put out there, and the fourth outfielder Colby Rasmus is pretty good himself. We did a great job of defending and coming up with big plays."
In the third inning, Gomez ran up against the wall on a leaping grab to rob Michael Bourn of extra bases in left-center. Gomez tracked the ball down in front of the D-backs' bullpen with runners at first and second.
One batter after Gomez's catch, Marisnick made a diving catch of a ball hit by Paul Goldschmidt to end the inning, saving a run.
Gomez also had a first-inning assist, and Springer's throw was a very athletic play. Springer was running away from second base when he threw out Rickie Weeks Jr. at second, attempting to get more than a single.
"We were feeding off each other and having fun," Marisnick said. "We can all go get it. It's a fun group to play with and nothing they do surprises me."
Houston starter Mike Fiers, who left with a 3-1 lead after six innings and got a no-decision, was grateful for the contributions of the outfielders.
"The defense was outstanding," Fiers said. "I can't thank them enough. Great defense all around."
