Astros pick up options on Altuve, Gonzalez

HOUSTON -- The Astros have picked up the 2018 options on the contracts of All-Star second baseman and infielder/outfielder , general manager Jeff Luhnow announced on Friday.
Altuve, who won his third American League batting title this year by hitting .346 with 24 HRs, 81 RBIs, 32 steals and 204 hits and is the front-runner to win the AL Most Valuable Player Award, will make $6 million next year. Altuve signed a four-year, $12.5 million deal midway through the 2013 season with club options for '18 ($6 million) and '19 ($6.5 million).
Gonzalez, who made $3.725 million this season, will make $5.125 million in the final year of his contract before he can become a free agent. He had the best season of his career this year, hitting .303 with 23 homers and 90 RBIs while starting at all four infield positions and left field, where he started in the playoffs.
