PHOENIX -- The Astros scored early and often to set the tone and pave the way for a 9-4 victory over the D-backs on Tuesday at Chase Field.
The teams split the first two games of a four-game home-and-home Interleague set and will play two more times starting Wednesday in Houston.

Astros right-hander Brad Peacock was perfect through three innings, though he lasted just 4 2/3, coming up short in his attempt to capture his 11th win of the season. Meanwhile, D-backs lefty Anthony Banda labored through his fourth career outing, relinquishing eight runs across four innings.

"I felt like I made some good pitches and they got to me," Peacock said. "I felt like I was attacking still and they just found the holes."
Banda gave up five runs in the second inning and was stung by extra-base hits from Max Stassi, George Springer and Alex Bregman.
The Astros tacked on two runs in the third inning and another in the fourth to surge to an 8-0 lead. Stassi, who finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs, added a solo home run in the top of the ninth to seal the victory.

"We were playing uphill baseball the whole way," D-backs manager Torey Lovullo said. "I don't think Anthony ever really found a rhythm -- made some mistakes to a very good offensive team."
"We know we are a good offense and wanted to put together good at-bats back to back," Astros shortstop Bregman said. "We did that, and that's one of the things we did a lot this year. When you put together quality ABs like that, we are a tough offense to stop."

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Not perfect, still solid: D-backs shortstop Ketel Marte broke up Peacock's perfect-game bid to lead off the fourth inning when he chopped an infield single down the first-base line that hit the bag and spilled away from Houston first baseman Yuli Gurriel. Back-to-back doubles by A.J. Pollock and Jake Lamb cut the Astros' lead to 8-2. Peacock allowed another run but rebounded to strike out Chris Herrmann and pinch-hitter Gregor Blanco with the bases loaded to end the inning and quell the threat.
"I felt offensively, we were kind of scratching and clawing at certain moments to get back into the game," Lovullo said. "I felt like one more hit -- one more big hit, two more big hits -- put us right back in the game."

'Stros break it open: Stassi roped an RBI double off Banda down the third-base line in the top of the second to spark a five-run frame. Jake Marisnick followed with a single, and with two outs, Springer belted a two-run double, Bregman hit an RBI triple and a wild pitch from Banda brought home Bregman with Houston's fifth run.

Astros: Houston begins an eight-game homestand against the D-backs, A's and Nationals beginning Wednesday. Charlie Morton will start vs. the D-backs at 7:10 p.m. CT as the four-game home-and-home set between the clubs shifts to Minute Maid Park.
D-backs: Arizona will send right-hander Taijuan Walker (6-6, 3.76 ERA) to the hill for Wednesday's matchup in Houston. Walker is seeking to garner his first win since June 21, when he picked up a victory against Colorado. First pitch is scheduled for 5:10 p.m. MST.
